Guidelines for Building Archeological Research

This booklet sets out the guidelines for research into built heritage. Such research is considered part of a standard approach to any construction project.

Architectural or planning interventions

In order to fully incorporate cultural and historical elements into decisions on architectural or planning interventions, specialist research first has to be carried out. The prime initiators of research into built heritage are usually property owners, developers, government bodies or other stakeholders in construction and redevelopment plans. This booklet describes the research methodology in detail, with a view to providing a sound basis for determining the cultural and historical value of buildings and sites. Matters such as planning applications and supervision are also addressed.

This publication is also available in Dutch.
